Hi Team
The weather for this coming weekend is – to be candid – not looking so crash-hot. Whilst there is still plenty of uncertainty on the actual path of Cyclone Vaianu and the conditions for the weekend, it’s prudent for us to start looking at what options are available to us … and we wanted to share those with you.
There are three scenarios that could play out – which we’ve outlined below. Right now, we don’t know which it will be, but we do want to offer as much certainty to participants as we possibly can. For that reason, if we are to postpone the event – which is absolutely a last resort – then we will make that decision no later than Noon on Friday.
This is what we have:
Option 1: All Clear (right now, this looks like <1% chance)
If the outlook on Thursday is for good conditions, the event will proceed as normal with all the (PB) bells, whistles, rock bands, big arches, etc, etc.
Option 2: Poor Weather (60% chance)
In the event that the weather forecast is for poor weather, but it is still safe for running – which is pretty much where we sit right now, the event will proceed but the level of production will be dialled back significantly. This means no on-course entertainment, big arches, fencing, etc. We will still run an awesome event for you with the best start and finish line that weather conditions allow; a flat-and-fast course out-and-back to Downtown Auckland and a great finisher medal – but some of the shine will sadly be washed off. It’s not quite what we wanted to put on for you … but pretty good all the same.
Option 3: Unsafe Weather (<40% chance)
If the forecast for Sunday firms up and we have high winds (rain is not really a big issue) – then the event will be postponed. Right now, we are working very hard to move the pieces around to have a rain date of the following Sunday, April 19th. However, there is still work to be done to confirm this. We understand how inconvenient this may be for some – especially if you have planned travel or accommodation – but safety must come first. Participants who are unable to make the rain date will be offered the chance to defer to the 2027 event instead. In compliance with our terms and conditions, we regret that no refunds will be available.
Stay warm, stay fit and we’ll be back with more on Friday.
